Akron General’s Labor & Delivery Unit provides labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care specializing in all aspects of the intrapartum period. From routine deliveries to high-risk pregnancies, parents have the reassurance that Cleveland Clinic Akron General offers Level III Obstetric Service, the highest level of care available in obstetrics. Our specially trained staff, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and anesthesiologists are available 24-hours a day.

As a Nurse Manager, you will manage the delivery of care within the Labor and Delivery unit at Akron General Medical Center. In this role, you will provide diagnostic or therapeutic services to patients while offering clinical supervision, maintaining quality outcomes and supervising all aspects of personnel management and development. Ultimately, your dedication and leadership help enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience for everyone, whether they are patients, visitors or fellow caregivers.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:30AM – 4:00PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nursing care on an assigned unit.

  • Establish clinical direction of nursing care, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes and patient care standards.

  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care.

  • Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to insure efficient and effective delivery of health services.

  • Supervise caregivers and promote development.

  • Maintain adherence to JCAHO and other regulatory standards.

  • Coordinate unit operations with other units/departments.

  • Develop and monitor budgets, approve purchases and establish/revise inventory quotes.

  • Analyze personnel structure and determine staffing needs.

  • Evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes and develop strategic plans.

  • Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN)

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

  • Three years of recent clinical nursing experience, including at least one year of healthcare management experience

  • High degree of clinical expertise in the specialty area

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group process skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Experience in fetal monitoring

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.

  • Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.

  • Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $92,620.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $141,265.00

The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
