As a Patient Transporter, you willbe responsible fordelivering exceptional service as youassistpatients in receiving care. You will be the first or last person to connect with the patient, giving you the opportunity to truly enhance their experience and leave a good impression. Patients enjoy communicating with the transporters because the conversation is not clinically focused and can help to get their mindoff ofwhy they are there. In this role, you will quickly become familiar with all areas of the hospital while leaving lasting impressions on patients and visitors.
A caregiver in this position will work 10:00am to 6:30pm, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas using wheelchairs,stretchersor beds, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps,dripsand special equipment.
- Transfer patients to and from beds,wheelchairsor stretchers.
- Transport patients during discharge to the hospital lobby.
- Ensure proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients.
- Approach and help patients and visitors.
- Verify and confirm standard precautions and correct patient identification by comparing information from the pager and patient wristband to obtain the correct medical chart and verify proper mode of transportation.
- Disinfect andmaintainequipment.
- Perform environmental and safety checks,identifymalfunctioning equipment, documentfindingsand report malfunctioning equipment.
- Move and deliver equipment and linen carts.
- Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures, patient and safety emergency procedures and proper body mechanics to safely move patients.
Preferredqualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- HighSchoolDiploma or GED
- After selection and placement, requires three months on-the-job training and orientation to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures and patient emergency and safety procedures, proper body mechanics necessary to safely move patients
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working with some exposure to communicable disease.
Ability to move/transport up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.).
Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
